Older Iowans Fund Provides $20,000 to frail older Iowans impacted by flooding

Immediately following the historic flooding in East Central Iowa, the Older Iowans Fund made available $20,000 to support frail and at-risk older Iowans impacted by the floods. Grants were made to low-income seniors to help pay for items that other funding sources would not cover, or fully cover, including lift chairs, beds, appliances, clean up, and utility bills. To date, all grant recipients have been Medicaid Elderly Waiver Case Management clients. In order to receive support via the Elderly Waiver, individuals must qualify for nursing home level of care and income guidelines established by Medicaid. The grants have provided an essential support to help frail seniors rebuild their lives and retain their independence in the community.
